Collector Covers of Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Books To Be Released

There will be new covers for the first four books of The Hardy Boys series available the 3rd of May in 2016. That’s #1 The Tower Treasure, #2 The House on the Cliff, #3 The Secret of the Old Mill, and #4 The Missing Chums. The first 4 Nancy Drew hardcover books had collector’s edition covers released last year with #1 The Secret of the Old Clock, #2 The Hidden Staircase, #3 The Bungalow Mystery, and #4 The Mystery at Lilac Inn. Thankfully, they also continue to publish the yellow hardcovers. The next four Nancy Drew collector’s edition covers for books #5 The Secret at Shadow Ranch, #6 The Secret of Red Gate Farm, #7 The Clue in the Diary, and #8 Nancy’s Mysterious Letter will be released the 13th of Oct. Here’s an example of The Mystery at Lilac Inn:

The collector’s edition covers for Nancy Drew displays 1920s fashion with an overall surreal, fantasy look to them. What do you guys think of them? I think the yellow cover of The Mystery at Lilac Inn is way more mysterious and intriguing looking. I’m more of a symmetrical-minded and realistic girl and that also influences my preference there. 🙂

As soon as I receive the Hardy Boys covers, I’ll post ’em! 🙂 Very curious – and a little scared! 😛 I love the current ones – especially The Secret of the Old Mill, and truly hope they keep them. 🙂

  1. There is definitely a different concept of art in the minds of the individual artists. I would be very excited if the more realistic, detailed & relevant-to-the-actual-story cover was the new “collector’s” design & the other cover was the original. Therefore, I’m disappointed that the “collector’s” cover is what it is. I understand there is myriad tastes in art; I also know that the “collector’s” covers make me feel nauseous when I look at them. 😦 They make me think, “What in the world…& in what world?????” The only things that actually can be identified with the stories are: there’s a girl on the cover, the one has purple flowers that look somewhat like lilac blossoms & the other has a horse on it. The regular covers have so much more depth to them, more color, more captivating & intriguing to the imagination. Like you, Ann, I almost shudder to think what they might do with the Hardy Boys covers (for the “collector’s” covers)! 😮

I’m so glad the regularly published Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew book covers are the great art that they are!!!!! 🙂

    Appreciating the good things,
    Lily

    • When I first saw them, I didn’t think it was something you would care for, Lily. Have you seen all of them yet? Lol to the “What in the world…& in what world?????” 😛 Like you said, there is much more to the regular ones. The collector covers use of symbolism instead of an action scene isn’t as intriguing. I’m hoping the Hardy ones will be good and I’ll want to get them – we’ll see! 😉 😛

      Me, too! 🙂

      • & you were absolutely correct on that, Ann! 😛 🙂 😎 Nooooo…..do I want to? 😮 That’s how I felt about it. 😛 Yep. 🙂 Yep. I hope so, too 🙂 – they’ll have to be good if they expect me to put it on my Hardy Boys shelf!

        😀

        Appreciating the good things,
        Lily

        • Lol, I felt pretty sure about that knowing how you feel about stuff. Hmmm, well, I want to see what you think of them! 😛 You probably will see most of them with the upcoming polls I want to do. 😀 Yep. I agree, it needs to be cool. 😎

  2. I’ve seen the covers for Nancy, but haven’t bought any. I’m anxious for you to post the HB covers!
    This blog looks great! 🙂

    • They have a box set with the collector’s covers coming out of the 1st four ND volumes on the 13th of Oct. I’m anxious to see the HB collector covers!! Don’t worry, I’ll post ’em as soon as I can after I get them! 🙂
Thanks so much, Hardy Sleuth! 🙂

  3. Oh, also wanted to say, I really like being able to see covers right on the page without having to open them in another window. That’s nice, thanks! 🙂

  4. I hope they continue to publish the blue hardbacks for the Hardys as they have done with the yellow hardbacks for Nancy!! I saw the Nancy Drew collector covers; I don’t like them.

If I’m looking for a detective novel and I lift a book from the bookstore (or library) shelf to discover it looks like those collector covers they are putting out, I would promptly put the book back where I found it. It looks like fantasy stuff; it doesn’t advertise at all that it is a logical detective novel – which is what a Nancy Drew book is!! A swirling fire with fairy sparkles with bunches of blossoms atop it, looming up before a girl doesn’t give any indication that this is anything other than a fantasy novel with a fairytale basis. I’m not critiquing the artist; I’m disagreeing with the publisher’s decision to use this style for the logical detective series of Nancy Drew. I don’t believe it fits together.

Hopefully they will choose more wisely for the Hardy Boys’ collector covers; I didn’t buy any of the Nancy Drew ones (nor do I plan to, even though I’m a serious collector of Nancy Drew books).

Thank you for the information, Ann; I love the look of your second blog!! 🙂 Callie

    • They should. 😎

I totally know what you mean – I think the collector cover is pretty for The Mystery at Lilac Inn, but it doesn’t say “cool mystery – must read!”. It does look more fantasy. Good point about logical Nancy Drew series. The yellow hardcover is more intriguing and vibrant. 🙂

Very curious, too, what they’ll do with the Hardy Boys collector covers.

Thank you so much, Callie! 🙂

      • Yeah. 🙂

Thank you; I’m glad we agree, Ann. 🙂

        Yeah. 🙂

You are welcome, Ann. 🙂 Callie

  5. I like all of the covers. The collector covers are pretty. They would make nice prints or posters for the wall! 🙂 They look fanciful and dream-like. The yellow-trimmed books make my mouth water with anticipation for the exciting mystery written inside! 🙂 They are my favorite. Likewise, the blue-trimmed Hardy Boys will probably be the best covers out of the two when those covers are revealed. If not, I’ll admit I’m wrong. 🙂

    • Hi Mary! 🙂 Very nice to meet you! 🙂 Good description for the collector covers – fanciful and dream-like. Pretty, for sure. 🙂 You said it about the anticipation a reader feels when seeing the yellow ones – it draws a reader even more to read it! So cool that you also like the yellow hardcovers for Nancy and the blue hardcovers for the Hardys best, too! 🙂 Another Nancy and Hardy mystery book fan!! 🙂 I’ll be looking forward to seeing what you think about the new HB collector covers! 🙂

        • 🙂 You fit right in then! 🙂 That’s awesome – what Hardys’ book or Nancy book have you read most recently? Thanks. 🙂

          • Thank you, Ann. 🙂 Ah, I’ve read a few, but which Hardy book was it? Sorry, the title just isn’t coming to me. 😦 You’re welcome. 🙂

  6. I tried to say something on your about page but I guess it’s full. 😦 I said that your blog is pretty! 🙂 And I asked if you’re in the U.S. West Virginia’s for me – and no, we’re not all hillbillies! 😆

    • It must’ve just glitched – sorry about that! I just replied on the About page, but just in case that isn’t working, I’ll just re-post it here. And thanks for not giving up and for taking the time to post – it’s really appreciated! 🙂 Here’s my reply to you on the About page:

Thank you so very much, Mary! 🙂 Really glad you think so! 🙂 Yep – USA! 🙂 Cool! Lol, I wouldn’t think that you were! So glad you posted and please come back often and share your opinion! – all of my blog readers are so nice and it’s so cool to hang out, talking about the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books! 🙂

    • Hi, Mary! 😀 I enjoyed reading your comments. 😎

      Appreciating the good things,
      Lily

  7. I’ve always loved how the writers changed the styles throughout the years. The Mystery Of The Lilac Inn has been my favorite book in the first series for years.

  8. The Mystery of Lilac Inn is one of my favorite Nancy Drew books, too! 😎 I haven’t read the original, but would like to. 🙂
